No M.D. for me, maybe for Atty?

I've decided (after more agonizing internal debate than I've ever before experienced) not to continue to pursue my degree in Medicine. It's true—not only am I not going to be a supermodel or an Olympian—I'm also not going to be a doctor. Boy was I off when I was planning this out in my childhood. For right now I'm going to be home enjoying everyday with Atticus. I couldn't stand the thought of missing so many moments with him. Hopefully Med School Dropout looks good on a resumé if I enter the workforce in a different capacity someday.

Oh and also Atticus doesn't have to get an M.D. He can pick any career he likes. I just thought he looked cute with a stethoscope around him.

Incidentally, I have a stethoscope for sale. Contact me if you're interested. : )

Atticus at One Month Old

Well, since we just got his professional photos from when he was one month old (finally!), we’d like to post an update on how the little guy was at one month of age. Look forward to next week's post on how he is at two months. : ) At one month old Atticus:

  • Weighs about 11 pounds (75th percentile)
  • Turns his head from side-to-side on his belly
  • Snores and makes silly mechanical noises in his sleep
  • Loves to sit in his swing and watch the fish mobile
  • Turns toward Mommy’s & Daddy’s voices
  • Loves to be held
  • Usually fills his diaper again within a few minutes of having it changed
  • Grunts at us when we bother him—it sounds like the “wrong answer” buzzer on a game show
  • Still has a full head of hair

Baby Houdini

Atticus likes to sleep in a nice snug swaddle, but sometimes when he’s waking up, he works his hands out so he can chomp on them. If the sleeve of his pajamas is pinned into the swaddle too tightly, he just gets his hand out of it, and up through the neck hole.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Punk Rocker Atticus

He’s pretty hard core (with styling help from Dad). Next thing you know he’s going to want an electric guitar.

  • Atticus never sleeps silently—he’s a noisy guy

Atty The Whiz Kid

Our Atty has a habit. He likes to "take a whiz" whenever his diaper is off. We're getting pretty good at the ol' Cover-While-You-Change trick, so the pee-tastrophes during diaper changes are becoming less frequent. There is often a fountain that springs forth from his bath though. And over the weekend we enjoyed the best whizzing so far.

We took Atticus to get photos taken by a photographer on Saturday. Atticus was pretty amiable throughout the various outfit changes and poses--until we took some pictures with him just in his diaper laying on some sort of bench. He wasn't thrilled about that bench. Then the photographer wanted to get just a few photos with his bottom bare while he was lying there on his belly. So we took his diaper off. He still hated the bench and now we were messing with the last bit of warmth he had covering him. He was mad about it and he told us. He just started wailing. Feeling sorry for the little guy, and since James and I were busy cleaning up after his diaper, the photographer decided to pick him up to soothe him--in all his naked glory. Needless to say, the pee started coming right away. She caught most of it with her shirt, which was drenched, but her pants and carpet also suffered a little. Also my shoes. I guess that's what you get for picking up a naked baby boy--particularly if he's Atty.
