Atticus at 9 months

Late but great, here are some photos and stats about Atticus at 9 months old:

At 9 months old, Atticus:
  • Is 29" long (75th percentile)
  • Weighs 20 lbs. 8 oz. (50th percentile)
  • Has a head circumference of about 18.5" (75th percentile)
  • Crawls really fast and gets into everything
  • Pulls himself up on furniture and likes to play standing up
  • Loves cell phones, gadgets, and (unfortunately) cords
  • Says "mamamamama" and "dadadadadada" all day long, but how can anybody even tell whether that means "Mama" and "Dada"?
  • Giggles and plays and interacts with us more than ever before

A visit to Temple Square

We got Atticus rather bundled up and took him out to see the pretty Christmas lights.
He enjoyed all the lights and also riding on Daddy's shoulders.
We had fun too, except for the fact that getting through the massive crowd at Temple Square required us to use our rarely rehearsed combat skills.

Messy Eater

I let Atticus feed himself some beets a few days ago.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Day.
Here are some highlights from Atticus's first Thanksgiving:

First Atticus helped us cook in the kitchen.

Then he enjoyed a pumpkin waffle for breakfast.

He ate the WHOLE thing, see.  ; )

Atticus helped do the dishes after breakfast.

He can't get enough of being in the kitchen.

We had a delicious Thanksgiving feast with the Bradleys.
Atty had lots of fun.

After dinner Atticus played some music with Aunt Kate.
He was in charge of the mandolin.

Growing up

This weekend Atty broke his first two teeth through his gums.  So far he hasn't found them to be much fun.  He also learned to crawl.  He finds that very enjoyable.

Fun Outings

At our spooky haunted train ride:

Atticus was obviously terrified.

At a nearby pumpkin patch:

At the petting zoo (Atticus was actually terrified of the animals there):

Atticus is Eight Months Old

At eight months old (seriously, already?) Atticus:
  • Weighs about 20 pounds (I doubt the precision of the bathroom scale on this matter--since it read the same last month).
  • Is on the brink of crawling, but just can't translate his momentum forward instead of backward yet.
  • Waves "bye-bye" (sometimes on command).
  • Is sleeping from 8pm to 7am at night.  Hooray!  Goodbye to the 4/5am feeding.
  • Loves to look at himself in the mirror.
  • Still thinks taking baths is great.
  • Likes to play "peek-a-boo" with Daddy, especially with the curtains in his room.

Pumpkin Fun

We began our Halloween celebrations with a pumpkin carving party this weekend. Which pumpkin is your favorite?

Apple Season

Over the weekend, we made good use of the apple trees in my parents' yard.  We picked the apples together and got out the old apple press.  Everybody had a great time crunching up the apples and pressing them into fresh juice.  It was delicious.

Everyday things

Atticus makes us smile when he's:

playing outside,

rolling around on his teddy bear rug,

grabbing for the camera,

getting his hair cut,

and trying to feed himself.

Atticus is seven months old

I'm glad we've made it through seven months of parenting alive.  I'm even more pleased that Atticus has survived with us as his parents.  And that he's pretty cute too.  At seven months old he:
  • Weighs about 20 pounds
  • Sits up on his own--and loves playing that way
  • Eats plenty of solid foods and enjoys almost all of them (just not the meat so far)
  • Gets around by rolling, scooching backward, and using a semi-somersault method which involves forward momentum from a sitting position
  • Reaches out to people when he wants to be held
  • Enjoys playing with all kinds of things, especially if they aren't toys (boxes, bowls, and empty plastic bottles are a big hit)
  • Has a new favorite song: B-I-N-G-O (thanks to Daddy)
  • Is a smiley and giggly boy
  • Is in constant motion and especially loves slapping/patting/splashing/drumming
  • Prefers Mommy be within a 12 inch radius from him at all times

Mmmm...

Atticus's diet has expanded to include rice cereal, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, green beans, and apple juice. He finds them all satisfying to his palate and delights in the varied culinary experience.

Atticus Takes a Vacation

Atticus went on a nice vacation to California last week.

He enjoyed his first plane ride. He especially liked ogling the people of the row across from us.

While on vacation, Atticus became a bidirectional roller.

He enjoyed visiting the zoo, learning how to drive, and especially playing with his cousin Kalliandra.

He also had fun going to a Major League Baseball game.

But the best part of his trip was definitely the beach. Atticus made a great little beach baby.
