Scouting

So, we've just moved in less than a month ago and we've already got pretty busy jobs in church. Actually, both James and I are working with scouting. He's got the 14-15 year-old boy scouts and I've got the 9 year-old cub scouts. This world is all new to me.

We've had these jobs for just over a week and I've already been to two meetings and have a whole lot of prep to do for next week and so on. James has been to three meetings and will be picking up canned goods for donation on Saturday morning and teaching a lesson on Sunday. Whew!

I'm excited to have some fun activities and go on some fun outings with the kids. I will not; however, rush into one of those yellow shirts. I wonder if James will have to get himself an adult-sized khaki one. Should be fun!

Did I forget to mention...

...that Atticus is outgrowing naps, that Violet is boycotting naps, that Atticus banged Violet's head into the rock fireplace last night, and that he likes to lock all our new doors from the inside and then close them from the outside--so that we have to pick the lock whenever we want to use the bathroom?

That last one really cracks me up actually. As does this story from today: I took the kids to Costco and I parked at the far end of the parking lot because it was very crowded. It's a little downhill from the far end of the parking lot to the store. Which means it's a very steep uphill from the store when the cart is full of 80 lbs of diapers and wipes and groceries and 50 lbs of kids. When I finally managed to complete the task of pushing the cart to the car, I got Atticus out to put him in the car first. Then I turned to see that the cart, and Violet in it, was heading backward back down the hill, where luckily no cars were driving past. I had to chase it down with Atty on my hip.

It's been a little chaotic lately. If you see a crazy lady chasing a shopping cart through a parking lot, it could be me. That's what moving and remodeling while raising toddlers will do to you.

Glamorous moments

Atticus has been having no trouble throwing tantrums lately. And a lot of trouble keeping his food down. He's grumpy and sick. And now Violet's sick too. Also, because I haven't put cabinet locks on the cabinets yet (as I've been busy painting and installing lights and cleaning up vomit), Violet is having the time of her life swiping stuff out of the cabinets and making a mess of the house. I should also mention that unpacking when you have a 2 1/2 year old and a 13 month old is not a short process. And that since we moved Atticus has responded to the turmoil by partially un-potty training himself. And that we have to speak in church on Sunday.

At least we have this pink bathroom. I bet you've never seen a bathroom this pink.
